Do you have clarity on why you want to accomplish your goals? Today on The Legalpreneur, I want to inspire you to evaluate your goals, in order to understand your deeper motivations and decide if the life you’re leading is the life you want.
As we enter a new chapter of The Legalpreneur, I am thinking a lot about why I started this project. The money is great, but staying focused on the mission behind the money is what lights my soul on fire.
I have never been more financially unstable, but this has also been the most abundant time of my life! You can create a life that makes you happy! Get to know yourself and dig deep into why you’re doing what you’re doing. No matter what you want to accomplish in life, be sure to evaluate the deeper meaning behind your desire, so you don’t build a life or a business that is unfulfilling. there’s almost 300 episodes. If you haven’t listened to all of them, I promise. They’re all worth listening to. So go back and listen. And of course follow along on social media, Instagram, Tik Tok, so much good information. And of course, we just put out our new membership. The new tier of the Legalpreneur membership. It’s only $99 a month. And what’s really exciting is you get a legal strategy session with me when you sign up right now. So there is not legal advice. During that strategy session. However, I do give you the gameplan that you need to move forward with empowered action. So get in the membership. Don’t forget. Now today’s episode is something that has been on my mind because it came up for me in a book that I was reading. So I love to walk. And if you don’t follow along on Instagram, then you don’t know this. But I sprained my ankle about a month ago. And it was really bad. I I’ve had surgery on this ankle and it’s rolled it at CrossFit. And it swelled up. And it was really, really bad. So I didn’t work out for several weeks. But luckily, I’m back to walking and running again.
Andrea Sager 03:13
But I love to walk. And I will walk for like an hour, two hours a day, because I love to walk so much. And it’s just me being out in nature and also listening to books. I haven’t been able to like sit down and read a book in quite a while but audible all day long. And I got this recommendation from a good friend, Liz. She’s actually in the Legalpreneur book, because I interviewed her. She was very gracious and gave me her time. She recently sold her company, she was on Shark Tank. And she let me interview her and she had IP issues and I was like Liz, this would be beautiful to talk about in the book. And so I interviewed her that is in the Legalpreneur book. If you haven’t got your copy, go get that. But she recommended a New Earth to me by Eckhart Tolle. And of course I know who Eckhart Tolle is, if you’ve done any self development work, then you know, you’ve heard of Eckhart Tolle. Well, I’ve always heard of him, never read anything by him. But I read this book, and let me tell you
Andrea Sager 04:21
literally had me questioning everything. But I think the message is so beautiful. And I’m not telling you to go read it and question everything in your life, but I want to share the message with you that I got from it. And it’s really determining what you want out of life. And I want you to take a good hard look at what you’re doing. Are you living life intentionally? Or are you just letting life happen to you? I think I realized several years ago, I was just letting life happen to me and then I started to really come into who I am and finding you know, me and myself or who I thought And, and I started living life intentionally however, I mean, the work is never done. And what I mean by that is, you know, personal development, self development work, it’s never done. It’s an ongoing process. And what I got from this book a new earth, it’s really figuring out your purpose in life. And as I was reading this, I started to literally question everything. I was like, What the hell am I doing? What am I doing with my life, like, none of this means anything. And I’ve shared this many times before, that I currently am in the worst financial position I’ve ever been, however, I am the happiest I’ve been.
Andrea Sager 05:41
And I feel more abundant than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. And which is so crazy to say, because I am in the worst financial position like in the 3d in the real, like, you look at my life. In the 3d, it’s like, wow, I’m worse off financially than I’ve ever been. However, I feel more fulfilled, I feel more abundant than I ever have before. And even though that is beautiful, my goal for Legalpreneur is to sell for a billion dollars. And what’s so funny is I was having a conversation with my friend, Courtney, probably a month or two ago, we were at her house. And I was talking about how I want to sell Legalpreneur for a billion dollars, and then start a VC fund for underrepresented minorities. And I said it pretty much those words exactly. And she’s like, well, Andrea, I have to tell you this that I’ve never seen you light up the way you did when you were talking about wanting to start this VC firm for underrepresented minorities. And that really got me thinking and I’m like, Whoa, shit, like maybe that is really what I want to do, which is help more underrepresented minorities like what? From that conversation, I started questioning. But then I I’m like, No, I really do want to grow in scale Legalpreneur. And because I do want to change the legal industry. And what I got out of that conversation with Courtney and then reconciled it with a new Earth is it’s not about the money. And that’s what I started questioning. Because as I was reading the book, I was also remembering my thoughts like I’m, I feel so abundant, but like, financially, that’s not like I’m not there. And that’s okay, because what I got from the book is it’s actually not about the money. And it’s behind my purpose. But I kept sticking to this $1 billion number. And I finally, like I pieced it all together. And the reason I keep going back to this billion dollar number, it’s because of what’s truly underneath it. My goal, like in my head, in order to sell for a billion dollars, that means I legitimately would have to change the legal industry.
Andrea Sager 07:58
And I, in my head, I can’t sell for a billion dollars until I have changed the legal industry for small businesses and attorneys. So even though this billion dollar numbers in my head, it’s actually not about it being a billion dollars, the mission behind it is the fact that I am going to change the legal industry, for small businesses, and solo attorneys. That is the true mission. And there will be some financial gain from it. But my goal is to go through this process of growing and scaling, a huge company, then selling and in the process, also changing the legal industry. So for those that are wondering, like, what’s a VC, it’s a venture capitalist. They’ve put money into startups, for them to grow and scale. And that’s how VCs make money and make their investors money. There are VCs that have gone to school to be a VC. And then there are VCs that were founders and then became a VC. I want to be the VC that was a founder, and then, you know, transitioned into becoming a VC because I want to be the partner, to our founders in the VC firm to help them grow and scale. I don’t want to just write a check and be done. I want to be able to partner with them, to help them with their business needs. Because I truly love love, love business. I love talking about business. I love really digging into businesses dissecting and really helping small businesses figure out like, how are you going to get to where you want to be? And it’s so funny, because coming into that I’ve always said like, I don’t want to be a coach. I’m very specific. I have coached people in the past, but I’m very, very picky about who I work with because I I don’t want to work with somebody that thinks I’m gonna give them some magic pill. I want to work with a true entrepreneur that is putting in the work and they just need guidance. They need accountability.
Andrea Sager 09:56
They need someone just guide them and help them that’s who I want to Because the coach and it’s bringing all this up, I just think it’s funny because I have had a couple of attorneys this past week asked me about coaching. Again. So that’s coming up. But in a sense, being the founder turned VC. It’s almost like coaching. But it’s I mean, it’s being a mentor and a guide. For the founder, that’s the type of VC that I want to be, is the founder term VC. Because I’ve lived it, I’ve done it. And that’s why I feel like I am in a great position as the CEO of Legalpreneur. Because I’ve lived every side of this problem. I’ve been the small business owner, I’ve been the big law attorney, the solo attorney, the small, firm, attorney, I’ve lived every side of it. And that’s why I know that I am the answer to legitimately changing the legal industry, because I’ve seen it all. I’ve done it. So all that to say, how to determine what you really want out of life. It’s getting into the reasons behind your goals. And this is why people always want to talk about what’s your why, why, why you have to remember why. And if you are looking for a book, I highly recommend a new earth. But be careful because it can really trigger some things. There was a couple of days there. I was like, What am I doing with my life, I could just walk away, I could just leave and like, move to the beach, and I’ll be okay. But really, it got me thinking and digging, and realizing it’s not about selling for a billion dollars, like if I mean, I really do think like if once we do what I’m aiming to do with Legalpreneur, like there’s no question we’re going to sell for over a billion dollars. But it’s not the money that’s driving me. It’s the purpose behind it.
Andrea Sager 11:55
It’s the fact that we’re going to change the legal industry, because for far too long, small businesses have been denied legal solo attorneys don’t have the resources that they need to be a success, and Legalpreneurs providing all of that to them. So in order to determine what you really want out of life, what your purpose is, what are your goals, and then dissect the why behind that. Because my goal, when I’ve said in the past is, oh, I want to sell for a billion dollars, at least. But really, it’s the fact that I want to change the legal industry. Now I know like that’s, that’s really what I want out of life, I want to go through this process. And of course, it’s all about enjoying the journey, which I’m enjoying every bit of it every step of the way, and enjoying this process. And then from here, moving on to starting a VC firm, and enjoying that process as well and helping many different founders. And so take time, like, sit and really think about what are your goals? And not just what are your goals? Write out your goals, but the why behind them because that is your purpose. It’s not just the goal. That’s your purpose. It’s the why the reasoning behind it. That’s what your purpose is. All right. I hope this was something that you all enjoyed this episode. I will see y’all Monday. And then just a few more weeks of episodes before we take our hiatus.
