Exotic Infringement: What Business Owners Must Understand About Joe Exotic’s Infringement

If you’ve been paying any attention at all in 2020, then you’re definitely familiar with “Tiger King”. Well, the story just got crazier! On June 2nd new developments took place in the intellectual property rights case between Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic, “The Tiger King”, and now Carole Baskin is the new owner of Joe Exotic’s zoo.

Whaaaaaaaat, you ask?!

In this bonus episode, I’ll untie the entanglement of “Tiger King” to explain just how Carole Baskin ended up being granted ownership of Joe Exotic’s zoo. This entire case stems from trademark and copyright infringement, something we talk about on The Legalpreneur every week. So, in this episode I’m breaking it down for you in hopes that this will serve as a cautionary tale to help you avoid infringing on another person’s trademarks or copyrights.

In this episode, we’ll cover:

  • A breakdown of the legal twists and turns between Carole Baskin, Joe Exotic, and Doc Antle

  • The details of Carole Baskin’s judgement and how it affected Joe Exotic’s assets

  • The potential consequences of not following LLC or corporation requirements

  • What Joe Exotic should have done differently to keep his business and assets safe
